Vegan MoFo 2009 Day #27: Do you ever get that sinking feeling? (or not as the case might be)

These are not the Jelly Donut Cakes from Veganomicon that went wrong because my jam didn't sink. Nope. These are "A zombie sucked out my eyeball" cakes. (incidentally - if anyone can shed any light on the reason why my jam didn't sink I would appreciate it. I followed the ingredients EXACTLY except I used sunflower oil instead of canola because I can't buy canola or rapeseed oil anywhere). Anyhoo - they taste AMAZING! I've had four already. BURP!

GO MoFo!

I love it! I just made zombie apocalypse cupcakes on my blog, looks like great minds think alike! These look REALLY tasty!

My best guess on what went wrong is the batter was a little too thick for the jam to sink and then to come back together and cover the jam. However, these are perfect for Halloween so I love the name change. Very creative!

As long as they taste great, you should just keep making them until they look the way you want!

These look awesome. Wow. Gotta love zombies.

I like the idea of the "Take on the Takeaway" show. That sounds like something I do. I try to replicate a restaruant meal so it is cheaper and I can eat at home and save some money. I recently tried a potato dish at an Indian restaruant that was phenomenal. Now my goal is to replicate it.

I'm not certain because I don't have the book in front of me, but I'm pretty sure the instructions say to use really nutritionally-devoid jelly instead of jam. That could be the culprit...

How Halloween-appropriate! I think the cakes look great, and with such a creative name change I would never have known that they were meant to turn out differently :).

i've never cooked with jam so i'm no help there. but i *love* that made them into spooky halloween treats instead.

I think they look FANTASTIC - and I know my little man would love one of these. I might make some for halloween.

They may not have turned out perfect, but I bet they taste perfect! I've got to make some one of these days, they look very good.

Mmm I could eat four of those right about now.

I am a substitute teacher, and all week when I've seen someone throwing a pencil (boys will inevitably throw pencils) I've said, "Even though I think an eyeball on a stick is perfect for Halloween, you better quit throwing pencils or you might put someone's eye out." Your cupcakes get me in the spirit without anyone getting hurt. perfect.

I make these cupcakes all the time and my jelly never sinks either. So I just take a dollop of batter and pour it on top of the jelly.

They look delicious, and if you frost them, the jam will be in the middle!

They look great even if the jam didn't sink which is the opposite of what happens to most people make them!
